Working for the work of the future

Everything really comes together here: a relevant topic, great customers and an exciting technical challenge. For the Hans Böckler Foundation's LABOR.A® conference, we were able to take on the concept, design and development of the new event website.

There are topics that are worth arguing about, discussing and, above all, working on. The "Work of the future" is one such topic. So we were all the more pleased when the Hans Böckler Foundation's "Work of the Future" department approached us to build the digital stage for precisely this: the new website for LABOR.A®, the conference and platform for discourse on the work of the future.

This year's motto: "Justice". A big word - and a big task for us to do justice to this important topic with a clear, accessible and technically sophisticated website (pun intended).

A design that thinks and grows with you

The basis for our concept was a key visual that we consistently rolled out across the entire website. We developed a flexible visual system based on colored semicircles - the parts that only form a whole when put together. These colors and shapes can be found as recurring elements throughout the entire site.

The special thing about it is that the circle segments are not static. They are generated dynamically and contextually. Each time the page is reloaded, the segments are rotated differently, which makes the page come alive. What's more, the design reacts to the content. It adapts to the modules placed on a page to ensure optimal readability at all times. Form follows not only function, but also content.

Simply helpful: internationalization and smart filters

An important innovation was the introduction of a complete English language version. Previously, English-language content had to be placed on the same default page, which made the homepage in particular confusing. Thanks to the clear separation, we now offer international users a clean and intuitive user experience.

This focus on the user experience is also reflected in the heart of the conference site: the program. To help visitors find their way through the wealth of offers, the agenda can be reduced to their own interests using combinable and dynamic filters. This means that everyone can quickly find what they are looking for and then know where to go on site.

The magic of headless CMS & APIs

Okay, "magic" is perhaps a bit of an exaggeration. But what we have built technically in the background hopefully feels a bit like that for the editors of the Hans Böckler Foundation's "Work of the Future" department. The technical centerpiece is the headless CMS Statamic. This not only manages the content for the LABOR.A website, but also for other web projects of the "Work of the Future" department. The result: no more time-consuming copy-and-paste.

There is also a connection to the live event tool "talque". The website automatically retrieves all relevant data via API - from speaker profiles and program items to partner logos. Maintain once in the event tool, up-to-date everywhere. That's how we love it.

The result: a stage for discourse

The result is a website that fully meets the objectives: It is clear, accessible and technically on point. Headless, responsive, fast and with a matching look. The website reduces the workload of the Hans Böckler Foundation's editorial team by maximizing the efficiency of technical processes. At the same time, it offers visitors to the conference a clear, fast and useful experience - from the first glance at the program to registration.

So the stage is set for October 1, 2026, when LABOR.A® opens its doors in Berlin's Cafe Moskau and online. We are already looking forward to it!
