When complexity meets the strategy of lightness. Invitation to a talk in our offices as part of Berlin Science Week - including an exhibition.

The central issues of the present - climate, AI, the fragmentation of society - carry a certain complexity. This weight of gravity is real and threatens to paralyze the necessary creative potential. We need more than just explanations. A strategy is needed.

The conviction is: transformation requires narrative accessibility, change needs ease. As part of our art work space project GE59, "SIMPLEX", in cooperation with Berlin Science Week, is therefore asking: How can we make the switch from the "burden of complexity" to an understandable narrative? It's not about abbreviation, but about deconstructing heaviness into a manageable form. The art of clarity.

When:
Monday, November 03, 2025, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Where:
HENKELHIEDL, Urbanstraße 116, 10967 Berlin

Who or what? The talk discusses the tools of "making things simple":

Dr.-Ing. Lisa Budzinski: Biotechnologist, Terra Xplore host, science communicator, and German Science Slam Champion 2022

She is one of the most important voices when it comes to making science engaging, approachable and understandable for everyone. "Making knowledge discussable" is at the heart of her work. She is all about having the courage to provide simple explanations for the dialog between science and society. She is actively committed to diversity, transparency and the accessibility of science. As a presenter on the ZDF format "Terra Xplore", in workshops at schools or universities or at science slams, she proves how complex things can be made clear and communicated in an entertaining way.

Thomas Susanka: Editor-in-chief of Science Notes

He has made it his mission to translate the most complex research topics into clear and captivating stories. And Science Notes magazine is living proof: each issue is dedicated to just one big topic - from "Crime" to "Italy". It's all about building a bridge and making science accessible through excellent storytelling and strong design. Science Notes also brings science to the clubs with a stage program - from Berlin to Vienna.

Plus: Exhibition by Felix Bork

In addition to the talk, Felix Bork will be showing in an exhibition how "making things simple" works with art. His seemingly naive, playful style and humor help to focus on the really important things in life: "Cute animals, beautiful flowers, colorful stones, poop and love". His identification books such as "Oh, an animal!" or "Oh, a stone!", which have won several awards as "Most Beautiful German Books", are the best example of this: they translate, change perspectives, create new enthusiasm and often make you laugh.
