A 360° approach to the world of mobility

For the product conference of Deutsche Bahn AG, Deutsche Bahn Connect was looking for an idea to present the current product range in an unusual way to a high-ranking audience of representatives from the press, politics and the group. Augmented reality was our answer.

Strategy consulting, conception, design, programming, project management, editing ... as far as digital projects are concerned, the project office now offers its customers every conceivable service component. As far as the target media are concerned, however, we have so far mainly been dealing with websites, microsites, web applications and apps, interfaces for set-top boxes or interactive furniture perhaps. Augmented reality and virtual reality have been missing so far.

We now also have the latter to offer in the project overview. But one after the other.

For the product conference of Deutsche Bahn AG, Deutsche Bahn Connect was looking for an idea to present the current product range in a sustainable and unusual way to a high-ranking audience of representatives from the press, politics and the Group.

Shuttle services from the train stations to the venue were offered to all conference visitors, most of whom of course arrived by train. So our idea was an application for a mobile VR system. We decided to go with the Oculus Go. Glasses were available in all shuttle vehicles, which transported the users into a virtual city. In the first part of the virtual journey, they had the chance to discover by chance how many people and vehicles in everyday urban mobility have long been connected with Deutsche Bahn Connect products. In part 2, this was clearly visualized once again for all those who had not stumbled across it by chance. A good dozen products were presented to interested parties with short explanatory texts based on practical examples.

After a spectacular ride into orbit at the end of the journey (keyword: flight cab!), the "soft" company values 2018 were conveyed once again, as well as an outlook into the vision 2025 of Deutsche Bahn Connect.

Deutsche Bahn Connect GmbH develops an individual mobility concept for each customer.

The basis for this is a wide range of mobility products: from classic fleet solutions, offers for car sharing (e.g. Flinkster) and bicycle rental systems (e.g. Call-a-bike), to consulting and integrated mobility offers. For private customers, B2B or in cooperation with municipalities. The subsidiary of the DB Group is not only a pioneer in many areas, but above all much more active than most people think.

How can this be changed?

The project office provided the idea, concept and design. The project management was also completely in our hands. For the technical implementation, we were able to find perfect partners in the Cologne-based VR specialists Evrbit, who were involved in much more than just code and skill. On the basis of Unity, the foundation was laid for possible further playouts on the web, in 2D applications on mobile devices, AR extensions or the output on interactive furniture. At the same time, individualization of the application is planned depending on the area of application.

In addition to use in shuttle vehicles and at the stand at the product conference itself, the application for Deutsche Bahn Connect offers other possible uses - acquisition and sales use it just as much as PR and marketing. Here, immersion and interactivity help communicate to potential customers and partners why Deutsche Bahn Connect is an excellent partner when it comes to mobility solutions. If VR has been proven to help people better retain what they have learned, this should certainly be helpful in identifying the large product portfolio.

Not an ordinary project in all respects.
